What this means for you as the consumer, is that you no longer have to pay the cost for the unreasonably high prices charged by PPL. PPL raised their prices 30% at the beginning of this year because of the deregulation cost. This deregulation process also allows you to not have to pay a 30% hike.
What deregulation is quickly. Prior to this year, the cost of your kilowatts was capped and controlled by the government. Because the utility company had a monopoly there was no competition in the market to drive the prices down. Now that the deregulation of electricity happened, the generation side and the distribution side of the company got separated.
